SOFÍA DURRIEU AT ALTEFABRIK RAPPERSWIL

OPENING  | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 6PM
FEBRUARY 8 – APRIL 6, 2025
ALTEFABRIK, KLAUS-GEBERT-STRASSE 5, 8640 RAPPERSWIL-JONA

We are delighted to announce that Sofía Durrieu (*1980 Buenos Aires, lives in Basel and Buenos Aires) will present her solo exhibition NN÷ME at ALTEFABRIK, from February 8 to April 6. This marks her first institutional solo show in Switzerland, curated by Irene Grillo.

Sofía Durrieu is a promising artist who has attracted attention and recognition for her work both in Switzerland and abroad in recent years. The thematic focus of her work is the human body as a place of the intuitive, emotional and spiritual and as a bridge to it. Some of her objects are reminiscent of machines and medical instruments; they appear biomorphic and technoid at the same time and trigger contradictory feelings of fascination and strangeness.

The exhibition at *ALTEFABRIK is Durrieu’s first institutional solo presentation in Switzerland and includes older works as well as new productions and site-specific installations. The focus is on the relationship between people’s habitual ways of thinking and acting and the conflicts within the individual. Calm and contemplative works invite us to pause and are contrasted with more aggressive works that testify to an almost warlike dynamic. This finds a cruel and tangible counterpart in current world events, but Durrieu specifically seeks out and addresses the unconscious. Freely inspired by the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung, in particular the concept of the shadow, Durrieu’s new works tell of unknown aspects of our lives and open up new possibilities for experiencing them.

The exhibition encourages visitors to get actively involved, to “jump over their own shadow” and to experience the artworks from their own perspective, but also from the perspective of others. “NN÷ME” can be understood as an onomatopoeic word creation which, when pronounced quickly and without pause, sounds similar to the English word enemy and thus gives a foretaste of the thematic focus of the exhibition.
