ARCO MADRID 2025
ANDRÉ BUTZER | DIMITRA CHARAMANDAS | AUSTIN EDDY | MICHAEL SAILSTORFER
BOOTH 9D07, HALL 9
MARCH 5 – 9, 2025
IFEMA, AVDA. DEL PARTENÓN, 5 28042 MADRID
For ARCOmadrid 2025 we will present a dialogue of four artists from the gallery program. The presentation will include new paintings by André Butzer (*1973 Stuttgart, lives and works in Berlin), Dimitra Charamandas (*1988 Solothurn, lives and works in Switzerland and Greece) and Austin Eddy (*1986 Boston, lives and works in New York), and new sculptures by Michael Sailstorfer (*1979 Velden, lives and works in Berlin). Since the inception of the gallery, it has been the mission to foster an inter-generational exchange among artists and collectors. The ARCO booth will bring together four artistic positions from wide ranging backgrounds that have come in contact through Livie Gallery and who cultivate a continuous exchange about their artistic practice.
André Butzer will present new paintings, expanding on recent works he has shown at his retrospective at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in 2023. Fusing European Expressionism with American popular culture, Butzer has painted his way through the artistic and political extremes of the 20th century – life, death, consumption and mass entertainment – into the 21st century.
After her duo presentation at our booth at ARCO 2024, this will be Dimitra Charamandas’ second showing at ARCO. Following her solo exhibition at Kunstmuseum Solothurn, Switzerland and her first show at Livie Gallery, Gypsum gallery dedicated a solo presentation at Frieze London 2024 to her work. Charamandas is a Swiss-Greek artist working across painting, video, text, sculpture, and food. Her curiosity for the interactions of body, mind and psyche under the influence of socio-political and ecological realities forms the driving force behind her work.
The American artist Austin Eddy adopts a playful approach to abstraction, blending elements of folk art and modernism. His vibrant compositions oscillate between recognizable imagery and pure abstraction. Recently his work was shown in solo exhibitions at Consortium Dijon, France, Kunstverein Heilbronn, Germany, Pace Editions New York, USA, Eva Presenhuber Vienna, Austria, and Livie Gallery, Zurich. A solo exhibition of his work will open in February 2025 at Kunsthalle Emden.
The booth is completed with new works by Michael Sailstorfer, who has produced a new standing and a relief sculpture for our presentation at ARCO. Alongside with a presentation of earlier works, this will highlight the current status of his practice and a return to ARCO after more than 20 years, following his solo presentation in Madrid as an emerging artist. Sailstorfer’s innovative use of materials transforms everyday objects into sculptures that challenge our understanding of form. His work reflects on the delicate balance of contemporary society, questioning cultural principles amid finite resources. Works by the artist have been shown in institutions such as Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Bundeskunsthalle in Germany, S.M.A.K. Ghent, and Swiss Institute in New York.
