We are excited to announce the Austrian premiere of André Butzer. His Art and His Time, a documentary film by Rudij Bergmann, taking place next Tuesday at mumok Vienna.
Over a six-year period from 2017 to 2023, filmmaker Rudij Bergmann created an intimate portrait of André Butzer (*1973 Stuttgart, lives and works in Berlin), documenting the artist through visits to major exhibitions across Berlin, Madrid, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. The film presents conversations conducted in close proximity, in Butzer’s studio, at the foot of California’s mountains, and along the Pacific coastline.
This 133-minute documentary serves as a thoughtful testament to Butzer’s artistic vision, featuring contributions from collectors, gallerists, companions, and family members. The film provides viewers with insight into both the artist as a person and his distinctive painterly practice, making his work and creative process accessible to a broader audience.
The Vienna screening will include a special live performance of the film’s music by internationally renowned guitarist and composer Claus Boesser-Ferrari. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to join a reception with drinks and snacks.
Admission to this Austrian premiere is free, though advance online registration for tickets is required as there will be no box office sales on the evening of the event. This screening is an opportunity to experience Butzer’s artistic world through Bergmann’s sensitive documentary lens at one of Vienna’s premier contemporary art institutions.
