Livie Gallery will exhibit at ARCO Madrid for the fourth time and will present a booth with new works by four artists from the gallery program. The booth will feature a dialogue between the conceptual practices of Olaf Holzapfel and Michael Sailstorfer, continuing the conversation initiated in their duo exhibition Speaking Through Substance. We look forward to new large scale paintings and works on paper by André Butzer and Austin Eddy that showcase the ongoing exploration of still life painting, which was the focus of the last curated group show at the Zurich gallery.

More information about ARCO Madrid
André Butzer (*1973 Stuttgart, Germany, lives in Berlin) has created a new large-scale painting for our booth at ARCO Madrid, that is presented alongside a new still life painting and two works on paper, expanding on recent works he has shown at his retrospective at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in 2023 and at Museo Novecento and Museo Stefano Bardini, Florence in 2024. He is a contemporary painter known for his vibrant, expressionistic style that blends European Expressionism with American pop culture influences. His work, ranging from grotesque figurative forms to abstract compositions, explores themes of history, politics, and mass entertainment.
Austin Eddy (*1986 Boston, lives in Brooklyn, New York) is showing new paintings and works on paper at ARCO Madrid 2026. He adopts a playful approach to abstraction, blending elements of folk art and modernism. His vibrant compositions oscillate between recognizable imagery and pure abstraction. Recently his work was shown in solo exhibitions at Museum Penzberg, Germany, Kunstverein Heilbronn, Germany, Emden Museum, Germany, and Consortium Dijon, France. His works are held in public collections including Herodium Museum, DeCordova Museum and Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
Olaf Holzapfel (*1967 Dresden, Germany, lives in Berlin) is presenting works in straw and textile that explore the intersections of history, culture, and architecture, featuring his characteristic repetitive patterns and organic forms inspired by both nature and human constructions. While two wall works made in straw draw a connection to the artist’s recent museum exhibition at Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, we are especially happy to present two works from Holzapfel’s work group Chaguarbild (Paths of Buenos Aires), which were created in collaboration with Argentinian weavers Luisa, Mirta and Teresa Gutiérrez. Olaf Holzapfel has participated in major international exhibitions including documenta 14 and the Venice Biennale 2011, with works held in institutional and private collections including the Robelin Collection, the Federal Republic of Germany and Haus Konstruktiv Zurich, Switzerland.
Michael Sailstorfer (*1979 Velden, Germany, lives in Berlin) who was recently awarded the prestigious 10th Iserlohner Art Prize, is presenting two sculptures alongside the work “Heavy Cloud 7”, oil on lead, which is the first work from this new work group to be presented. Sailstorfer’s innovative use of materials transforms everyday objects into sculptures that challenge our understanding of form. His work reflects on the delicate balance of contemporary society, questioning cultural principles amid finite resources. Works by the artist have been shown in institutions such as Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Bundeskunsthalle in Germany, S.M.A.K. Ghent, and Swiss Institute in New York.
